The BBC subtitle system this morning referred to the Department of Children, Schools and Lies. I know this department has been renamed many times, but this seems the most worrying...
Subtitles on television have always fascinated me: the journalists are reading of tele-prompters - why not display what they are reading instead of phonetically trying to translate it back? Also, when subtitles exist, why do they place a little person in the corner translating into sign-language? Are there so many and illiterate people?
